Tarot Card: The Sun

I have so much respect for artists that manage to get through the whole tarot deck. I’ve seen several try and even finishing a set of the 22 major arcana cards is a huge accomplishment. They have so much symbolism associated with them that if you’re doing it right, just the research can take a lot of time. So there is zero chance I will attempt that with nails, but they are a fun subject that I have visited before and will paint again some time.

Today’s look features The Sun, which is typically a very optimistic and positive card. That’s the kind of energy that we need right now. 2024, please don’t make me more sad.

Flipside view

I added some golden suns to the flipside of this nail art design and then snuck in some orange flowers to fill in the rest of the space because I felt like it. I probably should have picked sunflowers since they are often associated with The Sun tarot cards. Woops.

Items in italics are debuting on the blog for the first time.

My biggest driver when putting this design together was using the products from this month’s ManixMe box. I’d already used the polishes when I painted Love Birds so the plates were my focus. I picked one of three of their big space background images to start and then went to their french tip/half moon stamping plate. I tend not to paint nail art that uses either, but Maniology has been periodically releasing plates with season-appropriate french tip/half moon designs and I rather like them. So you will probably see more designs using them as I get to those plates. I really liked the sun designs and that set the tone for the rest and brought the tarot idea in.

As for colors, I wanted to deviate from the usual space colors so I picked a bold brick red and threw in black and bright gold to add some class.
