Inktober 2020: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5
I’ve made it to the halfway point and a little past it. Woof! I also didn’t finish one of my ink drawing on the day I was supposed to and had to play catch up on the weekend. That’s only two days where I fell behind, which means I’m already doing better than the year I finished NaNoWriMo. More adult! That’s me!?? π€£
There’s a surprising amount of fanart this week. And when you consider that I’m a fan of nudibranchs, snails, and carnivorous plants along with sandworms, Rocket Raccoon, and sharks*, the scales are fully tipped towards fangirl-ing.
* Sorry I can only love the concept of Sharknado and not the movies themselves. π€·ββοΈ
Day 12: Slippery
I love nudibranchs. They’re cute, colorful, and sometimes venomous. No words can capture how adorable they are like watching a video of them, so I invite you to watch the amusingly narrated True Facts: Freaky Nudibranchs. There are over 3,000 species of nudibranchs. I swear I could have done this whole challenge with just them. This one is supposed to be a Hypselodoris bullocki.
For the tangles I used a new tangle called Line Dance by Alice Hendon and filled in the center with Tipple.
Day 13: Dune
I have to admit, I tried reading the Dune books by Frank Herbert and found them boring. I much prefer authors like China MiΓ©ville and N.K. Jemisin when it comes to speculative fiction. But I do love giant worms, so when the Dune prompt came up, there was only one things I could draw: Sandworms!
For the tangles I used variants of a new tangle called Windmill by Hiroko Matsuo and two layers of an older tangle called Bumper.
Day 14: Armor
I was probably so excited to draw an armored snail on this day that I failed to orientate my tile (*cough* coaster) correctly. I may have to re-draw this one when I start coloring, which isn’t too bad because I can use this one to experiment with different media to see what works best with such an absorbent material. I have a distinct feeling that the water soluble colored pencils are going to work better than watercolor markers, but I could be wrong!
For the tangles I used two familiar tangles: Ambler and Amaze.
Day 15: Outpost
I was kind of at a loss on what to draw for outpost and then I realized I was thinking too much. Thus I drew my only non-fanart tile of the week. I probably could have looked up some sort of video game outpost graphic, but I wanted an easy win. He looks so content nestled amongst the pokeleaf tangles.
For the tangles I used two familiar tangles: Printemps and Pokeleaf.
Day 16: Rocket
My brain went straight past any representation of actual rockets and straight to my favorite one: Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy. Now mind you there are some more womanizing versions of him in the comic books that I do not care for, but he’s nothing but pure joy in the movies. Plus his relationship with Groot is pure joy.
For the tangles I used two familiar tangles: Meer and Shattuck.
Day 17: Storm
Once upon a time I thought it would be fun to paint a Sharknado nail art, but after drawing this I just kind of shudder at the thought of trying to fit so much on an even smaller canvas. It would probably need to be more of a close-up if I ever did it. Well, there’s always Shark Week!
For the tangles I used a new tangle called Logjam by Wayne Harlow and an oval variant of Gneiss.
Day 18: Trap
I don’t know if you have set foot into a Target around Halloween, friend, but they have a few carnivorous plants as part of their Halloween decoration line and they are so cute it hurts. I bought two of them this year, almost got a third, and realized it wasn’t quite what I wanted. I’m kind of debating whether or not I’ll make a few more on my own. One thing is for sure: the two I bought are not Halloween decorations in my house and will probably be staying out for the rest of the year.
For the tangles I used two familiar tangles: Swells and Fescu with a filled in aura between them.
Week 3 is done!
Only 13 days left. Will I make it? I…hope so? One thing is for sure: while I want to continue drawing more every day (even if it’s just illustrating my bullet journal more), this is a bit too much when you add nail art and blogging on top of it.
I feel like that’s something I should say at the end of the month. Like…here’s the life lesson we learned on this journey, but I kind of already knew it going in. So…uh…I confirmed for science that there are indeed only so many hours in a day and I want to use more of them for sleeping. Stay tuned as we also learn important things about minutes and maybe even seconds, friends! π€£
Next Inktober post on Monday. π
These are great! Rocket is brill π Was thinking the lettuce haha! Would have been stumped at Outpost!
Thanks, Ananka! Outpost really did have me stumped for a bit. Sometimes I just Google image search the prompts to see what pops up.
