The veil technique has hit the nail art community and I wanted to try it out sooner rather than later. Lucky for me my nails were already painted white. The basic idea is to drip one or two drops of your polish into a cup of warm water and let it spread across the surface and mostly dry. Then you use qtips or dotting tools to crumple it on itself a little bit before lowering your nail or a stamper onto it for pickup. After that, treat it like a water decal and blot it dry, then top coat. I think I still had a few pockets of water when I top coated mine because a little polish was swept away when I top coated. Also, I found that polishes that are too dark and opaque just won’t work well with this. My second attempt was still too dark in many ways. I will have to try it with some jelly polishes at some point.

The rest was pretty simple. Since this nail art was for #WhenColoursCollide’s white/brown/red prompt, I just needed to add some red. I had a Qgirl stamping plate with berries on it that I had never used. I picked two shades of red and stamped away. An easy peasy winter nail art look. Very doable at the salon.

I decided to call this mani Mystery Berries because just eating berries you find in the woods can be dangerous. No one actually wants to die Hunger Games style.

I like the veil technique quite a bit and hope to abuse it more in the future. I’m not sure that it will be as useful to me as a smoosh marble because its delicate nature invites you to leave as much of it showing as possible and I like to pile stuff on my nails. Yet it’s not complex enough on its own to satisfy me in most cases. Well, we’ll see what the future holds as we pass through it, eh?
