The subject for this #clairestelle8june challenge is fashion. I had these fantastic paisley water decals and I came very close to using them with some stamping on top. However. Behind the scenes I am doing a lot of nail art in a few days to catch up to all the challenges I have committed to in my head and then *gasp* get ahead (eventually). To do this my normal mode of painting both hands and all nails is going out the window. Yep. I am skipping my thumbs if the design I want doesn’t have a compelling reason to paint them. I’ve noticed a lot of nail artists will only show the fingers and it’s certainly easier to get things photographed if I don’t have to worry about my thumb. You can look back at all my photos and see how often it’s not quite in focus. Stupid thumbs. But I never thought I’d skip them for it! Really, someday I should go down the list of things I didn’t think I’d ever do when I first started this hobby. Blog post of shame, eh?
Except it’s nothing to be ashamed of. 🙂
Smoosh marble happened. I didn’t paint any colors underneath this time and I can definitely say that it dries faster than just painting your nails. Two coats of smoosh and a bit of dabbing on areas that still looked not opaque enough and I was done. And if you kinda smoosh it on your silicon nail mat first to pre-mix the polishes more you end up with a blot you can use as a decal to cover other nails! This idea occurred to me late so my pinkie nail is the only one I did this way. I love being lazy. Although…maybe it wasn’t too lazy because it took more time to clean up the edges?
Well, the perception of having been lazy is just as good as actually being lazy. Back pats all around! And to render my lazy ways moot, I’ve tried a different way of presenting the nail art on Instagram which has resulted in three times the amount of photo editing and the image below.
- Base Polishes:
Essie’s “Poolside Service”, Zoya’s “Gemma” and “Amira” - Stamping Polishes:
Essie’s “Poolside Service”, Mundo de Unas’ “Bronze”, Born Pretty’s white - Advanced Stamping Polishes:
Born Pretty’s white, Zoya’s “Spencer” - Stamping Plates:
Heart-07, Born Pretty’s BP-L003
Ooohh I saw these in instagram and I still remember them being so pretty! I did a smoosh mani the silicone mat once… I know what you mean about the perception of it being lazy! You get such great color payoff in a short period of time, but then the clean up is a pain in the butt.
Thanks! I do like to at least feel lazy. I think the greatest benefit is the dry time though. Even with the clean up it means I can get back to doing things faster.
Oh! And I missed your earlier comment on the decopunk mani. I thought seeing the different kinds of steampunk was cool too, but I haven’t seen much of it outside of the Bioshock games. It’s a shame.
