One of my favorite movie memories was watching the Forest Spirit from Princess Mononoke, both the transformations and when it was walking on the ground and plants just sprung up beneath its feet. It was so utterly magical to me. Like…that’s what a nature god should be (see also: Meredith Ann Pierce’s Treasure at the Heart of the Tanglewood). I tried really hard to capture that feeling in this nail art, but I have a long way to go before I’m nearly as good as an artist from Studio Ghibli. So will there be more Mononoke Hime nail art featuring my favorite thing from the show? Yes. Yes there will. But I should probably do nail art for my absolute favorite Miyazaki movie, Spirited Away, first. 😉
This was for the Fantasy Forest prompt for the Ladies of Color nail art group on Instagram. There’s no formal account so the best I can offer you is visiting this tag. I really loved this prompt and I am hoping the next one will be equally exciting for me. 😀
I used to orient all my nail art this way in the Time Before This Blog. I haven’t painted this way in ages and conclusion is: it photographs kinda weird. I will probably not do this again for a long, long time. 🙂
- Base polish was Sally Hansen’s Triple Shine “Kelp Out”
- Everything else done with acrylic paint
Man. It feels really weird to have no inlinkz to add to this post. The #31DC2017 is spoiling me. But, look! There’s a collage so you can glimpse all the nail art made for this challenge:
