Am I going to jinx things if I say that I’m still trying to use every image on the Nicole Diary Fashion Trends ND-002 stamping plate? Because I am and today’s look puts me at the halfway mark for the larger images. I even used my favorite image: the fox! Oh, he’s a handsome one and cozily dressed in a smart jacket, scarf, and sweater. He practically stepped out of any recent-ish k-drama. But was he worth the trouble? Because I had a lot of it…

So the challenge I painted this for required a matte topcoat and I nearly forgot it, but I luckily remembered before I photographed much only it was very late and I was very tired. After I took the photo I had to turn in, I kinda picked everything up in a bunch and things were still wet enough to dent. Badly.

Focus on the distractions…

Now I was already unhappy with some of my color choices and decals and having the nails ruined before I could finish taking photos just made me want to quit. Like…everything. So I just really dragged my feet on posting for a bit. I focused more on another goal which I started around the end of November which was to finish taking my Goodreads “currently reading” list from an over 350 book backlog down to only the stuff I’m currently reading. While still leaving at least some kind of review notes for future me (I actually do check them to see if I should read more books in a series or pick up another of the author’s books).

I met my goal Sunday night and I hope I never fall behind like that ever again. That was ridiculous.

Fight the ennui…

I’d posted the Winter Birds nail art even though I wasn’t happy with it and that managed to make me feel worse. I knew I couldn’t do that again. So I made myself repaint the parts that were both the most damaged and most hated and that’s what you’re seeing here today. If I’d had more mental fortitude I think would have taken off the negative space roses and replaced them with falling snow and the rose silhouettes, but I won the war. I’m gonna ignore the battle I didn’t need to fight.

The Flipside

And here’s the special cool part that made me really not want to give up on these nails: I did some flipside stamping! I know this isn’t a new thing to the nail art world, but these false nails are clear so I could just stamp first and paint on top and it’s such a cool detail I can share while my natural nails are still nubs. Now you can very carefully paint and freehand the underside of natural nails, but this technique really is the easiest with a clear starting point.

@MagneticMagicalNails – Warm & Cozy (w/matte)

I’ve decided to play with magnetics more this year so I’ve started joining in on this monthly collab started by Donna so many years ago. I may not paint every month because I’ve decided I need to be less completionist and more focused on painting things that excite me, but I’ve got plenty of unused magnetics so hopefully this helps.

Or maybe I’ll just end up buying even more of them and make my problem worse.

… Probably worse. 😅

Final cozy fox nail art photos

And now we’re near the end and at a great point for a side by side comparison of the new and old versions (well, side by side if you’re not on mobile). Either way it’s got the handsomest fox so…
