Index of the King

Still ignorant about marquee, but it does lead to the quotes at the top of my index pages.

New Old Beginnings:

Things began to get fleshed out (or flushed) now that I could work on the site from home. With more pages to manage, I began using different backgrounds for each section instead of each page...

  • Index of the King - unchanged.
  • The Royal Self - I never know what to put here or how to put it. Paragraphs? Lists?
  • Color World - unchanged.
  • Credits - unchanged.
  • Royal Writing Corner - expanded to three sections & a quote archive.
    • Poetry - Categories: amusing, imitation deep thought, and peanutbutter poems.
    • Short Stories
    • Essays - split into serious and not serious, just in case someone took my sarcasm for something else.
  • Royal Opinion - I had some so I wrote them down. I was the only who did it as far as I knew then.
  • Royal Jester - I started out w/some email forwards and my own answering machine messages, curses, top ten lists, and Earwig Haters Unanonymous.
  • Royal Artistic Attempts - I incompetently scanned in a few things and scaled them down with height and width attributes to make them thumbnails for themselves. Yes, I was one of those. :p
  • Update - just the date and a line or two. Don't you wish I'd talk so little now...

I briefly tangled with guestbooks: good for networking but ugly and they tend to attract spammers. I also began using a counter on the index and writing corner pages, even then understanding that there can be more than one main page to a site.

The Oopses:

I did some things that were mostly a waste of time:

  • I had censorship icons that marked pages where I swore.
  • I used two <br> tags instead of the <p> tag.
  • I set links so sweeping your mouse over them would set the status bar to the date the page was last updated. I don't like messing with the status bar anymore because I like to see where I'm going.
  • I started putting "Page hosted by _____." at the bottom of every page. Like people can't just look at the URL for that.
  • All the different backgrounds for things were a waste of time too.

The biggest problem was the border graphics. I kept using percentages in my tables (as I was taught), which doesn't work at different resolutions or even window sizes. Graphics that weren't wide enough also tiled, I'm sure. :p You won't see this error here, but I did it.

The text was placed in a table for your eyeball-ing ease. Originally, it all ran free like rabid pet rocks.
