The Little Mermaid

Today’s #clairestellechallenge theme is book/movie. I decided to do The Little Mermaid, but I wasn’t interested in following the color scheme from the Disney movie even though I gave it a direct nod on my thumb. The Little Mermaid holds a special place in my heart. It’s the first animated Disney movie I remember watching. I saw it at school and I was enthralled with the colors and magic of it. I’ve loved animated movies ever since, somehow more than live action. That love has been passed down to 3D and claymation animation, but somehow the 2D-looking stuff still ranks at the top for me although I suspect someday 3D will surpass it simply because so many good stories are being told with it.

Items being used for the first time are in italics.

I haven’t been using my ILNP polishes nearly enough so I decided to pick one and base the rest of my nail polish selections from there. I was surprised to realize I haven’t even used my bottle of Phoenix (H) before. I bought it ages ago! With that picked, I decided to keep this dark so I didn’t fill in Ariel’s skin. It does make it a little harder to see all the details because the image itself is a little hard to discern, but I’ll stand by my decision with a side note that I maybe could have filled it in with a jelly polish that would still have given it a negative space look while making the image easier to see. Live and learn and love what you did. So I shall. 🙂

  1. These are so pretty! I think jewel colors mesh really well with the Little Mermaid, considering all her treasures. My little boy loves that movie- especially the part where Ursula says “don’t underestimate the importance of body language”. Only he thinks she says “bummy language”, since she wiggles her bum while he says it. The image of my head of him impersonating her saying that incorrectly never gets old.

    • Thank you! I’m glad you think they matched since they were so not-Disney I was worried people would hate it. ;D

Kids are so stinkin’ cute sometimes. Ursula is hands down my favorite character in that movie and now I’m going to have this story to remember whenever I think of her too! 😀
